Strictly Christmas Special

Strictly Come Dancing

Christmas Special

Turkey, tinsel and all the trimmings and with six more celebrities battling it out on the dance floor but who will be crowned Christmas Champion 2012?

JB Gill & Ola     Jive

C 9  D 10  L 10  B 10  T 39

A great lively fast and furious Jive, JB was even pointing his feet on the kicks, a very good opening to this Christmas special that definitely set the bar high.

Bobby Ball & Katya     American Smooth (Foxtrot)

C 6  D 7  L 8  B 8  T 29

Quite a smooth and fluid little Foxtrot with very good rhythm and timing and a comical feel with Bobby pulling his braces ‘Rock on Tommy’

Sheila Hancock & Ian     Foxtrot

C 8  D 8  L 10  B 10  T 36

Graceful Granny Sheila, a beautiful interpretation of ‘Have yourself a merry little Christmas’ great top line performed with emotion and believable feeling.

Fabrice Muamba & Aliona     Salsa

C8  D 9  L 9  B 9  T 35

What a great hip action and style Fabrice has, if I had any criticism it would be to lift his eye line to give a more confident feel to the performance, but a great routine.

Katy Brand & Anton     Viennese Waltz

C 7  D 8  L 9  B 9  T 33

A lively, lilting Viennese Waltz full of character and grace with a soft and floating feel throughout very well performed.

Helen Skelton & Artem     Jive

C 8  D 9  L 10  B 10  T 37

Another clean and crisp Jive, Helen has really good leg and arm lines and the routine was full of character and charisma a very well performed piece.

The winner of the Strictly Christmas Special was JB Gill & Ola, but overall I thought the show was a little flat especially compared with the fantastic 10th series we had just been graced with, however I loved the return of previous Champions and performers who created a cheeky Christmas seg-way.

That is it from me for 2012 enjoy the rest of your Christmas and have a wonderful new year see you all in October 2013 for series 11, which is said to have an all new look and lots of surprises!

Keep Happy Keep Healthy & Keeeeeep Dancing.

THE FINAL

 Strictly Come Dancing

THE FINAL

We are finally here after twelve weeks of tense, nail biting, tear jerking, belly laughing fun, and now our four couples battling it out for the world famous Glitter Ball Trophy, they are all winners after what can only be described as an amazing season, but who will it be?

Kimberley                    Dani                    Luois                     Denise

Denise & James     (Judges Choice) Jive

Previous score 32

C 9   D 10   L 10  B 10  T 39

The energy was obviously oozing out and their cartwheel (as last time) was fantastic, there were still a couple of bent knees from Denise but her kicks were strong and attacking, a great number to open this 10th Final.

SHOWDANCE

C 10   D 10   L 10  B 10  T 40

A true showdance encompassing Tango and Salsa, amazing transition between the lifts which just went on and on, a routine which would not look out of place in a Showdance competition.

Dani & Vincent     (Judges Choice) Tango

Previous score 33

C 9   D 9   L 9  B 9  T 36

The precise placing of Dani’s feet coupled with the power and energy made this performance a truly professional demonstration, definitely to be proud of and for me deserving of a ten.

SHOWDANCE

C 8   D 9   L 9  B 9  T 35

A very difficult routine showing Paso Doblé and Rumba, there were a couple of little awkward moments but another great performance.

Kimberley & Pasha     (Judges Chioce) Viennese Waltz

Previous score 34

C 9   D 10   L 10  B 10  T 39

A beautiful and elegant Viennese Waltz, there were however a couple of little slips but an amazing performance.

SHOWDANCE

C 9   D 10   L 10  B 10  T 39

Kimberley went for it! Their energy was off the scale with Samba, Salsa and Cha Cha racing around the floor, greatly performed, wild and flirtatious.

Louis & Flavia     (Judges Choice) Salsa

Previous score 30

C 9   D 10   L 10  B 10  T 39

I loved this routine the first time and this time was even better, Louis has worked hard on his hips and Mambo Breaks and polished it all with presentation and performance. Well done.

SHOWDANCE

C 10   D 10   L 10  B 10  T 40

Strength, Strength, Strength! Louis makes Flavia look like a stick of celery, the lift they executed was unbelievable with great Argentine Tango and Rumba both performed effortlessly, a beautiful story with true passion, if anything it all ended too soon.

THE FINAL FINAL

No one deserved to leave the competition at this stage but unfortunately it was Dani & Vincent who step out gracefully at this stage, but at least we get to see them again on the tour.

FAVOURITE DANCE

Denise & James     Charleston

C 10   D 10   L 10  B 10  T 40

A great performance, that was lively and enthusiastic with good strong precise arms.

Kimberly & Pasha     Tango

C 10   D 10   L 10  B 10  T 40

A perfectly performed Tango showing true amazing choreography, with staccato timing, passion and an amazingly controlled topline, was easily deserving of any Championships.

Louis & Flavia     Charleston

C 9   D 10   L 10  B 10  T 39

A fabulous Charleston, full of fun, tricks and a forward and reverse standing somersault. WOW.  And a deserving boo from the studio audience at Craig’s 9!

We were then delighted to see all of the 2012 celebrities with their professional counterparts perform a bubbly, lively group Jive number before we crowned the 2012 Strictly Winner which was awarded to …………………..Louis & Flavia.

Don’t forget the Strictly Christmas special on Christmas Day at 6.15pm BBC 1

Until then Keep Happy Keep Healthy and Keeeeeeep Dancing.

Striclt Week 11 The Semi Final

Strictly Come Dancing

WEEK 11

Semi Final week and with two dances each from our five remaining couples who will be our final Fab Four?

Dani & Vincent      American Smooth (Foxtrot)

C 8   D 8   L 9  B 9  T 34

Good character, good technique, good timing, fantastic control on the lifts, fantastic footwork, overall a fabulous little Foxtrot.

Argentine Tango

C 9   D 9   L 10  B 10  T 38

It is very difficult to watch the celebrity when Vincent is performing what he is best known for, but a beautifully performed Argentine Tango, there were however a couple of little technical things and a little mistake half way through but neither of these spoilt a second for me, I could have watched them both dancing the Argentine Hokey Cokey and it would be beautiful.

Louis & Flavia     Jive

C 7   D 8   L 8  B 8  T 31

A cool rhythmical Jive/Rock n Roll, performed with spirit and flair, a few of Louis’s Kicks were slightly turned in and could have had a slightly more control, but a good little well told story.

Foxtrot

C 9   D 10   L 9  B 10  T 38

I found their Foxtrot routine a little heavy and lacking in the fluidity and softness of a Foxtrot almost as if Louis was forcing the steps, but I loved the performance level.

Denise & James     Tango

C 9   D 10   L 10  B 10  T 39

A great little Paso Doblé entrance to their routine this week and a very strong Tango action, however Denise’s legs were bent on the kicks and the shaping was too forced, there was some nice true Tango figures demonstrated, it was good but I did not find it worthy of a ten, do you agree?

Rumba

C 9   D 9   L 10  B 10  T 38

When Denise is in close hold and posing she moves beautifully almost to perfection, but when she is solo and moving from step to step her technique was very poor, stumbly and almost basic, I find her arms and finishes to her lines amazing and balletic and the story telling or acting immense, I very rarely comment on the dresses but I would have preferred to see more of the body shaping in the Rumba and her frock covered this up.

Kimberley & Pasha     American Smooth (Foxtrot)

C 9   D 10   L 9  B 10  T 38

I have to say that this was another inspirational routine from these two, great timing, choreography and musicality, even though you could see how nervous they both were and I agree with Len about the amount of time they were in Ballroom hold, I would have liked more, but still a great job.

Charleston

C 10   D 10   L 10  B 10  T 40

A fast, strong and entertaining Charleston with effortless looking control and fun and even a continuous triple cartwheel to make sure we were left wanting more, what strength and stamina.

Lisa & Robin     Salsa

C 7   D 8   L 8  B 8  T 31

Another lively performance from Lisa, however I did not think her timing was quite up to scratch and her Mambo Breaks were quite heavy footed, the bum twizzle also looked very awkward, I commend your energy and love what you bring to the floor.

American Smooth (Foxtrot)

C 8   D 8   L 8  B 8  T 32

A lovely, lively Chicago performance and Lisa makes everyone watching her smile from inside out and out of all the celebrities from Strictly 2012 you have come the farthest, made me smile the most and hopefully have inspired millions to dance, thank you.

SUNDAY RESULT SHOW

A magical winter wonderland opening from our professionals, obviously done for the BBC’s special effects team to have a rehearsal with the artificial snow for the Christmas Special and with Kimberley & Pasha, Louis & Flavia and Dani & Vincent guaranteed a place in next week final and Lisa & Robin and Denise & James battling it out in the most emotional dreaded dance off ever, Lisa gave it her all and Denise was more determined than ever the judges had no easy task , but in the end there was only one place left and they chose Denise & James to dance again in the Final.

WEEK 10

Strictly Come Dancing

WEEK 10

With only two weeks left until we crown our Strictly 2012 Champion, and as the competition really starts to get tough the producers decide to throw another spanner in the works by adding ‘Dance Fusion’ where our performers now have to  master the style of two dances gelled together.

Denise & James     Jive and Quickstep

C 8   D 9   L 9  B 9  T 35

Denise was definitely in attack mode with their routine this week, with power and attitude shinning through on her jive and great strong kicks and flicks, she did however take a little slip as they started their Quickstep and although her topline was excellent there were several technical issues with footwork and Quickstep styling, but overall a good showpiece.

Lisa & Robin     Tango and Cha Cha

C 7   D 8   L 7  B 8  T 30

Lisa really captured the passion of the Tango and the spirit of the Cha Cha but unfortunately she forgot part of her routine and took several bars of music before she regained control, a great performance, presented extremely well, just a pity about the slip up.

Nicky & Karen     American Smooth (Foxtrot) and Samba

C 5   D 7   L 8  B 7  T 27

Nicky had a great opening to his routine this week and after the first few seconds I thought we were going to be in for a real treat but unfortunately the two different styles became one, the flow and grace of the Foxtrot became almost robotic like and the speed and movements of the Samba looked as if they were almost running on a treadmill, I also thought the choreography let them down as the two styles needed more work to show the different dances.

Dani & Vincent     Charleston and Quickstep

C 9   D 10   L 9  B 10  T 38

Dani looked amazing and their routine was truly amazing, fantastic choreography danced to perfection with both styles shown to their best, a true routine for any Strictly Final.

Louis & Flavia     Tango & Rumba

C 9   D 9   L 9  B 10  T 37

We can now see the emotion in Louis’s dancing, his technique has improved, the Rumba was fluid yet masculine and the Tango showed passion and strength, If anything there was a couple of times when I thought it was over danced and a little intense but only briefly.

Kimberley & Pasha     Cha Cha and Tango

C 10   D 10   L 10  B 10  T 40

The Highest score of the series so far and easily deserving it, again brilliant choreography a perfect sexy performance of the Cha Cha and pure emotion of the Tango, another performance fit for the Strictly Final, the only problem for me is how to pick a winner between Dani and Kimberley as what they both bring to the floor is truly inspirational.

SUNDAY RESULT SHOW

For me Saturday’s result show has to be the best Quarter Final we have ever been graced with on Strictly and with an unusual Alice in Wonderland show piece opening to Sunday’s show the question is how can the Strictly phenomenon keep getting better with only two weeks left? Nicky & Karen and Denise & James in the dreaded dance off and both couples performed their hearts out but Denise & James are through to next weeks Semi Final.

Strictly WEEK 9

Strictly Come Dancing

WEEK 9

The first day of advent and with only three weeks to the grand final, who will be the fairy on top of our tree, and who will be left outside clearing and salting the paths!

Kimberley & Pasha      Jive

C 9   D 8   L 8  B 9  T 34

A great fast and furious Jive routine, with some good technically demonstrated steps and even a Twisting Pull Through, Kimberley kept the energy throughout but I would have preferred to see a little higher elevation, but well danced.

Dani & Vincent      Viennese Waltz

C 8   D 8   L 9  B 9  T 34

A lovely well controlled Viennese Waltz, with a lovely little storyline, great control on the rotary turns and a beautifully held attitude, despite what Craig said. A near perfect performance.

Michael & Natalie     Samba

C 5   D 7   L 6  B 6  T 24

Samba is a very difficult dance for the male celebrities to master and look fluid yet masculine, and Michael on the whole did a very good job, the choreography reminded me of a Donnie and Gaynor routine,  great lively performance with just a couple of little hick-ups, but well placed feet.

Nicky & Karen     Argentine Tango

C 7   D 8   L 7  B 8  T 30

This was easily Nicky’s best dance to date, showing great control, flair, passion and power, beautifully dramatised and intense with great control on the lifts and drag, a little stumbley on the Zig-Zags but well done.

Lisa & Robin      Quickstep

C 7   D 8   L 8  B 8  T 31

A light, lively, quirky Quickstep, I thought the energy and choreography slipped slightly in the second part of the routine, but a great showpiece.

Denise & James     Salsa

C 8   D 8   L 8  B 8  T 32

For me this was one of Denise’s best technical performances to date, despite the couple of little slip ups on the preparation for the final lift, which I do not think was needed as the dance content was enough on its own, a good Mambo Break action with well controlled hips on the cucaracha.

Louis & Flavia      Charleston

C 8   D 10   L 9  B 10  T 37

Louis ‘s best performed routine to date, with great choreography using his skills to the best, it did feel a little slow for a Charleston but a great showstopper and a true little selection box!

SUNDAYS RESULT SHOW

A Café Rouge little Charlestonesq routine to open the show this week by our professional dancers but with Michael & Natalie and Nicky & Karen in the dreaded dance off it was going to be hard to lose either one of our male celebrities and even though they both upped their game, the performance of Nicky & Karen’s Argentine was fabulous and we see them get a step closer to the Glitter Ball trophy.

Week 8 #scd

Strictly Come Dancing

WEEK 8

As our eight remaining couples become seven and after last weeks high of Wembley, it is now time to pull out all of the stops and aim for the final straight.

Dani & Vincent      Samba

C 9   D 9   L 9  B 9  T 36

Quite a static Samba routine from these two this week, but what a fantastic leg and hip action Dani has developed and what great control she shows on the solo section of the routine, I am so glad the judges have finally given the marks they deserve.

Kimberley & Pasha     Tango

C 8   D 9   L 8  B 9  T 36

What amazing control Kimberley was demonstrating, she must have spent hours on her topline to create the near perfect framing, the power and presentation was phenomenal along with the choreography, yes there was a little slip but I think it was because the energy they were created was so intense and the couple of heel leads Kimberley missed was not even worth mentioning, for me this routine was deserving of a couple of tens.

Victoria & Brendan     Salsa

C 4   D 6   L 6  B 5  T 21

This, I have to say was a good clean Salsa routine with correct and neat Mambo breaks and Salsa basics and with well thought out choreography, Victoria has a nice little Salsa action with good fluid hips and excellent execution of the lift work, yes it is the man who helps you to get up there but it is the girl who holds herself steady, the whole routine was not at all embarrassing and to score it a four I thought was quite disrespectful, You should be very proud Victoria and easily deserving of a severerern.

Louis and Flavia      Paso Doblé

Louis had really nice shaping and well controlled cape work, however I thought the true feel of the Paso was missing and the routine had a very safe feeling to it and was a little lacking in personality, it was almost as if Louis had gone backwards by several weeks, the music did not help the interpretation either, come on Louis get your mojo back.

Lisa & Robin      Rumba

C 7   D 6   L 7  B 7  T 27

I love what Lisa & Robin bring to the floor every week but for me this week was their worse routine, I did not feel any true emotion from the performance or the choreography, again as with Louis it felt more like a week two routine than a week eight! Rumba is the dance of love and therefore should be soft, fluid yet with great strength and intensity and I did not feel this from either of them at all there was also lots of incorrect footwork and miss placing of steps, I also think the judges scores were a little high (which I thought I would never say!)

Michael & Natalie     Argentine Tango

C 6   D 7   L 7  B 6  T 26

I think I need to get my television seen to because I think I am watching a different couple than the one the majority of the judges were watching, a very intensive, believable routine with very well controlled lifts and drag (which is harder to control than a lift) it did definitely look like an Argentine despite some of the comments, I thought it was well led and performed, the Argentine is as difficult as a Rumba for a male celebrity to master, and Michael it was really nearly there, well done.

Nicky & Karen     Charleston

C 9   D 9   L 9  B 9  T36

Again I do not get what the judges were scoring I found this routine quite heavy for the majority of the time, Nicky’s shoulders were far too high and fixed, there was some nice figures but I did not find it light and entertaining and much preferred the Argentine Tango.

Denise & James     American Smooth (Foxtrot)

C 9   D 9   L 9  B 10  T 37

This was Denise’s moment, and if she did not shine in this routine then there was something wrong, it was a pure stage performance, lacking slightly in Foxtrot technique yet performed with grace and beauty.

SUNDAY RESULTS SHOW
An unbelievable opening from our female professionals along with Flawless, and it was so nice to see Aliona dancing again.  Michael & Natalie and Victoria & Brendan in the dreaded dance off and neither of them deserving to be there, in my opinion, but Victoria did make several obvious mistakes so we see Michael & Natalie dance again next week.
